Six new storytellers share what Huntington’s Disease has taught them about living

Some people try telling stories on stage after discovering popular storytelling podcasts. Others are drawn by a personal mission — to raise awareness of causes that are important to them, such as finding a cure for Huntington’s disease (HD).

In May 2022, Stellar Story Company co-produced with the Huntington’s Disease Society of America a live storytelling event for Huntington’s Awareness Month. The event featured six people sharing true, inspiring stories about how Huntington’s has impacted their lives.

While each volunteer had experience speaking about HD in different forums, the art of storytelling was new for everyone. Stellar helped each person craft a story that blended information about HD with universal truths about what is most important in life, like the value of time, avoiding stereotypes, and love.

Charles King’s story was particularly impactful. He recounted his and his wife’s efforts to become parents following his HD diagnosis. Taking the audience through unimaginable trials and tribulations, he reinforced the importance of not letting DNA dictate personal dreams and how, in his words, “family is everything.”

Watch and share these six remarkable stories. Live storytelling offers many benefits to nonprofits, including raising critical funds to sustain the work and inspiring the public to support their mission.
